State: Massachusetts - The Massachusetts economy consisted of fishing, shipbuilding, and farming. There was an estimated 268 thousand people living in Plymouth and Massachusetts combined in the 1780s. In the Massachusetts area there were lots of woodlands and water that was abundant with wildlife.
Occupation: Singletary was the operator of a mill and was not born into money.
Constitutional Convention: He was a member of the Constitutional Convention and was serving as one of the delegates to the state of Massachusetts.
Voting: He voted against ratifying the Constitution because he felt the tax laws included in the document were too hard on the working class and too lenient and the elites.
